Imagine Indonesia’s seas crystal clear, alive with thriving coral reefs, and coastlines free from waste. In reality, however, environmental threats are becoming more urgent than ever. Since 2015, Seasoldier has stood as a grassroots environmental movement committed to confronting these challenges. Founded by Nadine Chandrawinata and Dinni Septianingrum on March 28, 2015, Seasoldier was born out of passion and a sense of responsibility to protect the environment.

Over the past decade, Seasoldier has evolved into one of Indonesia’s most recognized environmental movements, with over 10,000 volunteers across 17 regions in Indonesia. Their mission extends beyond awareness—it focuses on direct action to protect ecosystems, encompassing land, coastal, and marine environments. Along the way, Seasoldier has also forged partnerships with over 50 organizations and institutions, further strengthening Seasoldier’s conservation impact.

“BRANI: Boldly Celebrating Inspiring Action”

This phrase is not just a birthday theme—it’s a declaration of resilience representing a decade of dedication. On April 27, 2025, Seasoldier marked its 10th Anniversary with a celebration at Cibis Park, South Jakarta. The event was not only festive but profoundly significant, symbolizing a decade of dedication to environmental stewardship. Around 3,000 visitors from diverse communities and backgrounds came together to honor the journey that started ten years ago.

As part of its environmental accountability, Seasoldier assessed the ecological footprint of the celebration itself. Using carbon emission calculation methods from the Association of Music Festivals, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the organization estimated emissions generated from energy use, electronic devices, and visitor mobility.

To offset this impact, Seasoldier launched a program to plant 10,000 mangrove seedlings as an ecological offset. The seedlings were funded through visitor donations, sponsorship support, and 100% of proceeds from BRANI’s ticket sales and activities—all reinvested into conservation efforts. To achieve the 10,000 mangrove planting target, BRANI is fully supported by AEON Indonesia. In the end, the target was surpassed, with 10,215 mangrove seedlings ready to be planted in Tangerang, Semarang, and Surabaya. All planting efforts will be carried out under the supervision of Seasoldier’s conservation team, following their monitoring and maintenance standards.

A Day Full of Inspiration: BRANI Event Highlights

From morning to night, BRANI offered a series of activities blending education, entertainment, and recognition for environmental action. The day began with BRANI Zumba, a fun session designed for mothers and children. This was followed by BRANI Junior, where children enjoyed storytelling and creative coloring sessions with the Masakecil team.

By midday, the spotlight shifted to the BRANI Talkshow, covering topics such as sustainable living, stories of inspiring women protecting our seas, and youth expression through art and music as a form of love for the planet. Visitors also took part in BRANI Workshops, learning hands-on skills such as recycling organic, paper, and plastic waste—practical actions they could take back to their own homes and communities.

In the afternoon, BRANI Appreciation highlighted Seasoldier’s gratitude to volunteers, partners, and supporters who have been part of the movement over the past decade. The evening reached its peak with the vibrant performance by BRANI Music, presenting a seamless blend of theater and live showcases that captivated and uplifted the audience.

Throughout the day, visitors also explored BRANI Booths, with 30 curated spaces. One standout was the preloved booth, offering secondhand treasures from over 20 public figures. All proceeds were donated to support Seasoldier’s future environmental programs.

A Decade of Movement, A Lifetime of Commitment

Ten years of Seasoldier is more than a timeline—it’s a legacy of action that inspires and proves that change begins with small steps. From a single seed planted, to a story shared, to thousands of volunteers on the ground—each step has carried one shared mission: protecting our planet and our future.

Now, at this milestone, Seasoldier reaffirms its commitment to move even further. And for you, it’s your turn to take part. Start with one seed, one simple action, because the sea cannot wait, and the Earth needs us all—right now.

Be part of a movement that doesn’t just care but takes action. This is the time to be BRANI.
