Seasoldier was founded on a shared concern about the growing threats facing our oceans and natural environment. The increasing amount of marine debris and the degradation of coastal ecosystems underscore an urgent need for collective action. Believing that protecting the Earth is everyone’s responsibility, Nadine Chandrawinata and Dinni Septianingrum established Seasoldier in 2015 as a community-driven movement that invites people to reconnect with nature and take an active role in safeguarding it.

As Seasoldier marks its 11-year journey, that spirit of action has grown into a wider wave of environmental impact. What began as a grassroots movement has gradually developed into a foundation that focuses on environmental conservation, education, and local community empowerment. Small steps taken collectively have created a ripple of positive change, moving from one individual to another and inspiring more people to take part in protecting the Earth. What began as a simple act of concern has gradually evolved into a collective movement that continues to generate meaningful change for the environment.

Through the #11YearsofSeasoldier campaign, the community invites the public to reflect on this journey and to better understand how everyday actions, no matter how small, can become part of the #WavesofImpact, a growing movement of change driven by care, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

The Waves of Impact theme was chosen to illustrate how meaningful change often begins with consistent, small steps. Much like ocean waves that are formed through the continuous movement of water, simple everyday actions, from reducing waste and protecting coastal ecosystems to spreading environmental awareness, can create a ripple effect that expands when people act together.

By embracing the Waves of Impact theme, Seasoldier emphasizes that protecting the Earth is not defined by a single large action, but by many small actions carried out collectively. When individual care meets the strength of community, these simple steps can grow into a powerful wave of change, one that creates real impact for the environment and for the future of our Earth.

The spirit of this journey is also reflected in the symbol introduced as part of Seasoldier’s 11th anniversary celebration.

The Philosophy Behind the Number 11

As part of this milestone celebration, Seasoldier introduces a special ‘11’ symbol that reflects the journey the movement has taken over the years. The number does more than mark the organization’s anniversary; it represents a path shaped by consistency, long-term commitment, and a collective spirit to protect ecosystems.

The solid structure of the number reflects the two pillars that have supported Seasoldier since its early days: vision and action. Vision provides direction and purpose, guiding progress, while action represents the tangible efforts to protect the environment. Standing side by side, these two elements form the foundation that has allowed Seasoldier to grow and remain resilient over time.

The symbol’s visual design is also deeply inspired by the ocean. A curved seahorse tail replaces the tentacle-like element, reinforcing Seasoldier’s marine identity while symbolizing adaptability. This detail reflects the strength to respond to environmental challenges while remaining balanced and aligned with natural ecosystems.

Its dynamic yet controlled curves further illustrate the relationship between humans and nature. The design carries a clear message: rather than resisting nature, humanity should learn to move with its rhythm. This philosophy has guided many of Seasoldier’s conservation initiatives throughout more than a decade of environmental work.

The dominant blue color strengthens the organization’s connection to the ocean. It represents depth, reflection, and a steadfast commitment to safeguarding marine ecosystems, the very inspiration behind the movement itself.

The philosophy embedded in the symbol not only represents Seasoldier’s journey, but also serves as a reminder that the values the movement has built over time must be translated into real, tangible action. It reflects the belief that environmental commitment should not remain merely symbolic, but should continue to inspire concrete efforts to protect nature and sustain the health of our Earth.

11 Actions for the Earth

As part of reflecting on this journey, Seasoldier also introduces 11 simple actions for the Earth. This initiative highlights that protecting the environment can begin with everyday habits. These actions serve as a reminder that every individual has a role to play in safeguarding our planet, including:

  • Mangrove Planting – Planting mangroves to protect coastal areas and support marine life.
  • Coral Conservation – Restoring coral reefs through coral transplantation efforts.
  • Waste Sorting – Separating waste by type makes recycling easier and prevents pollution.
  • Public Transportation Campaign – Using public transportation to help reduce carbon emissions and urban congestion.
  • Ecobrick and Waste Upcycling – Turning plastic waste into ecobrick or other useful products, giving discarded materials new value.
  • Energy Saving Actions – Using water and energy responsibly to ensure natural resources remain available for future generations.
  • Eco Content Creations – Sharing environmental education and inspiration through creative content on social media.
  • Nature Exploration – Spending time in nature to better understand, appreciate, and strengthen our connection with the environment.
  • Creative Gardening – Repurposing used items to create small gardens at home and promote sustainable living.
  • Reusable Campaign – Bring reusable water bottles and shopping bags to reduce single-use plastic consumption.
  • Eco Workshop – Participating in an environmental workshop to learn practical solutions and real actions for protecting the Earth.

Through these 11 actions, Seasoldier aims to show that meaningful change often begins with small steps. When many people take these simple actions together, they become interconnected and grow into a much larger movement, forming a #WavesofImpact that continues to inspire hope for the Earth and future generations.

To further amplify this spirit, Seasoldier invites the wider public to take part in the #WavesofImpact Challenge. Through this initiative, anyone can share simple actions they take to protect the environment, from reducing waste and conservation activities to keeping their surroundings clean.

Taking part in this challenge is not only a personal commitment to environmental responsibility but also a way to inspire others to join the movement. By sharing these actions on social media, individuals can help spread awareness and encourage more people to care for the Earth and become part of a growing wave of positive change.

To take part in the #WavesofImpact Challenge, participants are encouraged to document one of the 11 environmental actions they practice in their daily lives in the form of a photo or video. The content can then be shared on social media using the hashtags #11YearsofSeasoldier and #WavesofImpact, while tagging the official account @seasoldier_ and inviting one to three friends to join the challenge and help create a wider waves of impact. Through this simple step, every shared action becomes more than a personal contribution; it also has the potential to inspire others to take part in protecting the environment.

Through the #WavesofImpact Challenge, Seasoldier hopes that the spirit of environmental stewardship will extend far beyond the celebration of its 11-year journey. Instead, it seeks to nurture a collective movement rooted in everyday actions, because when small steps are taken together, they can grow into powerful waves of impact.
